The rustic oak floor was sanded down to bare wood. A whitewash stain was applied and finished with Bona Traffic HD water based, matt lacquer.
Price for a floor refurbishment service like this is £60.00 per square metre.
This is a specialist process and should not be compared to replacement flooring, since this process requires sanding, then staining and then finally finishing your floor to a highly attractive and durable standard, nor should it be compared to floor polishing.
It is not possible to put a finish on top of the existing floor without preparation. Damaged or worn floors without the proper sanding preparation first could be disastrous, since I cannot know what compounds exist in the current floor. Adding new surface compounds on top of existing and potentially different material may result in the two not bonding together.
This project involved a fire-place cupboard refurbishment also. The cupboard was sprayed painted with a Farrow & Ball Polyurethane lacquer finish.
